Civics 101

At The LIBRE Institute we believe in promoting a more prosperous Hispanic communityby providing individuals with the toolsand knowledge to overcome barriers to opportunity. By learning Americanhistory, our community will have a chance to prosper and create more opportunities for themselves and their loved ones.

Why do we elect the president of the United States through the Electoral College and not a nationwide popular vote?  What is Federalism?  Why do we call them “states” and not “provinces” like in other countries?  These topics and others are discussed in Civics 101.

Civics 101 teaches the fundamentals of the American political system and governmental structure.  Students will study a brief history of the founding of the original thirteen states and the founding documents, the federal governmental structure, and the electoral process.  Students will also study the basic governmental structures of individual states and counties.
